Why do we ask? You wouldn't leave it to an IT organisation to recommend a doctor for life-saving surgery. - Is the role what they expected? Did we clearly articulate what the role is/is not?
- Is this role/project suitable for where they are in their career now? Will they develop or get bored?
- Does our team need someone completely autonomous, or do we like to nurture?
- Why is the resource moving? Will the new environment suit them? Or will they have one ear open waiting for the next recruiter to call?
- Are they the right fit for the team?
The list goes on, and there are no right or wrong questions and answers; these need to be tailored to the role and the organisations. No matter how good you are, no one can foresee the future or has control of it. As part of our sourcing process we take extra care to mitigate this statistic as much as possible
What is it costing you?
We usually hire during growth peaks and our busiest times. Excessive numbers of interviews take your organisation's time away from other pressing activities, and more importantly lead to loss of personal time, with many having to work after hours to compensate. If you are repeating the hiring process too much there will be great impacts from loss of IP, training and delivery timelines. As everyone's environment is unique, only you can quantify this.
